Diagnostic features

Colonial chlorophyte with round cells set in a sphere of mucilage. The centre of the colony is hollow, with the cells arranged around the outside. Each cell possesses 2 flagella which project through the mucilage sheath. 

Typical habitats

Found in the plankton of nutrient-rich ponds including sewage ponds
