Life history

  • Found in damp places, compost heaps, under bark and garden debris
  • Usually eat decaying plant matter, but feed on root vegetables if soil moisture is low. Also windfall fruit, seedlings
  • Sometimes found in large numbers
  • Also known as woodlice
